How to Calculate Stairs

  1. Measure total rise - Floor to floor height (including finish floor thickness)
  2. Calculate number of risers - Total rise ÷ ideal riser height (7"-7.75")
  3. Calculate riser height - Total rise ÷ number of risers
  4. Determine tread depth - Total run ÷ (risers - 1), minimum 10"
  5. Calculate stringer length - √(rise² + run²)
  6. Verify code compliance - Check all dimensions against local codes

Comfort formula: 2 × Riser + Tread = 24" to 25" (ideal)
