Flooring Installation Tips
- Always buy 10% extra - you'll need it for cuts, mistakes, and future repairs
- Diagonal and herringbone patterns require 15-20% extra material
- Let hardwood and laminate acclimate 48-72 hours before installation
- Keep extra tiles/planks from the same batch for future repairs
- Carpet is sold by the square yard (9 sq ft / 0.84 m²) - we convert automatically
- Consider underlayment costs separately (often $0.30-0.75/sq ft)

How to Calculate Flooring
Calculating flooring materials is straightforward:
- Measure the room - Length × Width = Square Footage (or m²)
- Add waste factor - Multiply by 1.10 for 10% extra
- For tiles - Divide total sq ft by tile sq ft
- For boxed materials - Divide by box coverage, round up
- For carpet - Divide sq ft by 9 for square yards
Formula: Materials = (Length × Width) × (1 + Waste%)
