- Base depth: 4" for patios, 6-8" for driveways
- Compaction: Compact gravel in 2" lifts with a plate compactor
- Sand bed: 1" of leveling sand (not compacted before pavers)
- Slope: 1/8" to 1/4" per foot away from structures for drainage
- Edge restraint is essential to prevent spreading
- Polymeric sand hardens to lock pavers and prevent weeds
